Of Art Shows and Purse Making

March 16, 2008

The opening of the gallery show I was in came off without a hitch last Saturday the eighth. I had four pieces in the show, and two of them sold that night, which marks the first time I’ve ever sold my fine artwork to someone outside my family. Here’s a slighty crappy photo of how all four pieces looked hanging on the wall:

Here are better close-ups of all four:

Memory Fades  Keeping Close  Embrace  Treading

“Keeping Close” and “Treading” sold for $145 each, to a local couple and art collectors whose interest in an artist’s work has historically been a very good thing. They did buy the two best pieces of that group, and I’m really pleased by the idea that they find my work that interesting. I always worry that my lack of formal training will prevent me from ever having any major success as an artist, but each time someone is interested in what I have to say, I realize that it’s really not about formal education.

Also, there are several new Teenie Weenie bags up at etsy. I will be trying to list a lot more of them over the coming week, but the week is stacking up to be pretty intense, what with an imminent in-law invasion next Saturday, Easter, and the fact that yesterday was one of the best days ever at the local Farmer’s Market, meaning I need to replace some stock. That, though, is a good kind of busy to be.

I’m working on more fine art daily, and preparing to possibly show in a private affair that is put on by the same benefactors who purchased my work from the gallery. It’s an important opportunity for small-town me, so I want to have some really stellar work ready for it (it’s not until December, so there’s time). Next week, also, I will finally finish those Hollywood Waisted Pants and then we can make all kinds of jokes about them.
